How to return on Amazon

Before explaining how to return an item purchased on Amazon, it seems right to provide you with some information about the situations in which it is possible to make the return and the situations in which, however, it is not possible; on what are the deadlines to be respected and what are the differences between the return of products purchased directly on Amazon and the return of Marketplace items (therefore purchased from third-party suppliers).



Amazon's return policy allows you to return purchased items, without having to specify the reason, up to 30 days from their delivery. If your purchase meets these requirements, you can return the product and get a refund of the price. The shipping charges will be at your expense, unless you return the product by 14 days from the date of delivery (in that case they will be paid by Amazon).

As for the reimbursements, their disbursement takes place on the same payment method used for the purchase or via Amazon vouchers. To be more precise, the refund can be made by issuing an Amazon voucher upon receipt of the goods by the courier, or by crediting the credit card used for the purchase, after about 1 week from receipt of the goods by the courier. Amazon.

In some cases it is even possible to request the immediate refund. If the product you intend to return offers this possibility, you can get your refund without having to wait for the item to be delivered to Amazon. Usually this mode involves the crediting of a bonus to the Amazon account. Of course, if you don't return the item within 30 days calendar from the date of delivery, the refund will be deducted from your account.



It is important to point out that or products to be returned must be in good conditions, or rather, in the same conditions in which they were delivered. If, for example, you have purchased a new item, this must not show any damage, except for those that may have been present at the time of delivery. The same applies to the purchase of a used product: it must not show signs of wear or defects of various kinds, except those that were already present at the time of delivery.

There are, then, some cases in which it is not possible to make a return. In this case, there are some categories of products that are excluded from the Amazon return program and therefore cannot be returned (unless they are defective or faulty). This is the complete list of products that are NOT included in Amazon's return program.

  • Items made to measure or clearly personalized.
  • Items that are likely to expire quickly or deteriorate.
  • Sealed items that have been opened after delivery.
  • Alcoholic beverages, the price of which was agreed upon at the time of conclusion of the sales contract, whose delivery takes place only after 30 days and whose actual value depends on market fluctuations that cannot be controlled by Amazon.
  • Audiovisual products, software, etc., the packaging of which has been opened or the seals have been removed.
  • Digital content provided through a non-material medium, once their execution has begun.
  • Newspapers, magazines and periodicals (with the exception of subscription contracts for the supply of the same).

Returns for items shipped from Amazon


If you are interested in doing the return for items shipped by Amazon, all you have to do is access the Amazon Online Returns Center, select the item you want to return, justify your request indicating why you have decided to return the item (e.g. you have had second thoughts, the product is defective , etc.), indicate a return method among those available and obtain thereturn label which you will then have to print and paste on the package that you will send to Amazon.

If you need to return items shipped directly from Amazon, you can use the prepaid labels and then you can decide whether to go to the post office to send the return or whether to ask for home collection. If you return a damaged or defective product and use a prepaid label to return it, you will not be charged for its use. If the return of the purchased item does not depend on errors made by Amazon, however, the return costs will be deducted from the total refund, which may vary if you make the return by home collection or returned by post office.

If, on the other hand, you want to send the return via a courier of your choice or if you ship the return from abroad, you can use the non-prepaid labels that allow you to return your item to Amazon by directly supporting the shipping costs upon delivery of the parcel to the post office or courier (except for the right to a refund, where applicable).


Return for Marketplace items

If you need to do the return for Marketplace items, i.e. items purchased from a third party seller, you can return the item directly to the seller from whom you bought the product. Marketplace sellers are required to apply return policies that comply with those applied by Amazon, but to know the specific return policy that is applied by each seller, you will need to visit the relevant detail page located on the seller's profile.


To visit a seller's profile and find out about their return policy, simply go to the online returns center, click on the item Return an item, click on the seller's profile, click on the link Returns, warranties and refunds which is located on the seller's page itself and finally click on the item Seller Return Policies (next to the name of the same). If in this section there are no specific indications on the return policies, the provisions contained in the sections will apply to your order Legal guarantee e Refunds that Amazon has put in writing on this support page.

Once you submit your return request, the seller will tell you if it has been accepted (if you don't get a response within 2 business days, submit an A-to-z Guarantee claim) and, if so, send you an e- mail containing a return label that you can print by directly accessing the online returns center. I want to tell you that some sellers use a slightly different procedure and, therefore, may send you an e-mail containing specific instructions regarding how to return.

Usually, the shipping costs for returning items purchased from a seller are the responsibility of the customer. However, if you receive an item that is defective, damaged or does not match the description provided by the seller, you may be eligible for a full refund. In addition to this, if you contacted the seller within 14 days of delivery of the product and returned it within 30 days of delivery but did not receive support, I invite you to file an A-to-z Guarantee claim.

How to return an item on Amazon

Now is the time to take action! After providing you with all the information you need about Amazon's return policy, it's time to explain how to return an item on Amazon by accessing the Online returns center or using theAmazon app.

Online returns center

To return an item via the Amazon site, log into the Online Returns Center by clicking on the link I just provided and, if you haven't done so yet, log in using your credentials. After that, click on the link Return an item and, if requested, re-enter your login credentials in the appropriate text fields, in order to access the page of the Amazon Online Return Center.

Now locate theorder which contains the product to be returned, click on the button Return or exchange items located on the right and, in the new page that opens, select i products to be returned. Then justify your request by selecting one of the options available in the drop-down menu Reason for the request (eg. No longer needed, Wrong item received, etc.). After that, click on the yellow button Continue and choose whether to get a refund on the payment method used for purchase or if through gift voucher.

Then choose a return method from those indicated on the page that opens (post officecollection by a courier), click on the button Confirmation and print the return label by clicking on the button Print the label and instructions. If you have chosen to collect the item by courier, the courier in charge of collecting the item will send you an email with the date and time it will come to collect the item (usually this happens within 24 hours of submitting the return request. ).

In the case of products purchased from third party sellers, the return outcome may not be immediate. After choosing the good to be returned and the reason, you have to press the button Submit return request for approval and wait for the response from the seller. Within 48 hours you will be informed of the approval of your request via an e-mail which may also contain specific instructions on how to return the item or the return label. Depending on the reason and availability of the item, you will have the option of receiving a refund or replacement. Remember to replace the original item by the date indicated on your return request.

In cases where there is no return request button, you can contact a seller directly by going to the section my orders Amazon, identifying the order that contains the goods to be returned and pressing the button Seller Feedback which is on the right. Then locate the seller you want to contact on the page that opens and click on the item first View the seller's profile which is on the right and then on the button Contact the seller present on the next page. Finally, choose the option An order I placed, select the order that contains the product to be returned and send your message to the seller using the appropriate text field. You should receive a reply within 48 hours. If this does not happen, please file an A-to-z Guarantee claim as I explained to you earlier.

Please note: you can check the status of your returns and refunds at any time by accessing the section my orders of Amazon and clicking on the button related to returns located next to the order in which the product you are about to return is contained.

Amazon app

To return an item on Amazon you can also use theAmazon app, available for both Android, iOS and Windows 10 Mobile devices. After downloading the Amazon app on your device, start it and log in using your Amazon account login credentials. Then presses on the symbol (≡) and, in the menu that appears on the side, tap on the item my orders.

Finally, press up Confirmation.

In the case of products purchased by third-party sellers, you must and tap on the button Submit return request for approval to forward your request to the seller. Within 48 hours you will receive a communication in which you will be indicated if your request has been accepted and you will be given further instructions on how to proceed. At that point, all you have to do is proceed with choosing a return method from those available and printing the return label.
